High Protein Chicken Parm Bowl (Printable)

A modern twist on classic flavors featuring seasoned chicken, marinara, and cottage cheese under a golden, crunchy topping.

# What's Needed:

→ Chicken

01 - 1 large boneless, skinless chicken breast (approximately 7 oz), cooked and chopped
02 - 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
03 - 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
04 - 1/4 teaspoon salt
05 - 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

→ Sauce & Cheeses

06 - 2/3 cup low-fat cottage cheese (approximately 5.5 oz)
07 - 1/2 cup marinara sauce (approximately 4 fl oz)
08 - 1/4 cup shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese (approximately 1 oz)
09 - 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (approximately 0.75 oz)

→ Toppings

10 - 2 tablespoons whole-wheat panko breadcrumbs
11 - 1/2 teaspoon olive oil
12 - Fresh chopped basil for garnish

# How to Make It:

01 - Set your oven broiler or toaster oven to high heat setting.
02 - Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add panko breadcrumbs and toast, stirring frequently, until golden brown, approximately 2 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
03 - Combine chopped chicken with garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Toss until evenly coated.
04 - Divide the seasoned chicken evenly between two oven-safe bowls, spreading it across the bottom of each bowl.
05 - Spoon marinara sauce over the chicken in each bowl. Top with dollops of cottage cheese, then sprinkle with mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.
06 - Place bowls under the preheated broiler. Cook for 3 to 5 minutes, or until cheese is completely melted and bubbly with lightly browned edges. Watch carefully to prevent burning.
07 - Carefully remove bowls from the oven using oven mitts. Sprinkle toasted breadcrumbs and fresh basil over the top. Serve immediately while hot.

# Tips for Success:

01 -
  • The cottage cheese melts into the sauce creating this insanely creamy texture without any heavy cream
  • You get 46 grams of protein in one bowl but it tastes like an indulgent comfort meal
  • Everything cooks in under thirty minutes with only one pan to wash
02 -
  • Oven safe bowls are non negotiable here because regular bowls will crack under the broiler
  • Watch the broiler like a hawk after the three minute mark because cheese goes from bubbly to burnt fast
  • The cottage cheese might look a little lumpy going in but it melts into the sauce beautifully
03 -
  • Room temperature cottage cheese melts more evenly into the sauce than cold from the fridge
  • If your bowls are shallow watch closely because everything will cook faster under the broiler
