St. Patricks Day Puppy Chow (Printable)

Chocolate peanut butter cereal mix coated in powdered sugar with festive green drizzle and sprinkles.

# What's Needed:

→ Base

01 - 9 cups rice Chex cereal

→ Chocolate & Peanut Butter Coating

02 - 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
03 - 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
04 - 1/4 cup unsalted butter
05 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

→ Powder & Decorations

06 - 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
07 - 1/2 cup green candy melts or white chocolate chips with green food coloring
08 - 1/4 cup green and gold sprinkles
09 - 1/2 cup green chocolate candies (such as green M&Ms), optional

# How to Make It:

01 - Place Chex cereal in a large mixing bowl and set aside.
02 - In a microwave-safe bowl, combine chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until melted and smooth (about 1–2 minutes total).
03 - Stir in vanilla extract until well incorporated.
04 - Pour the melted mixture over the cereal and gently fold with a spatula until all pieces are evenly coated.
05 - Transfer the coated cereal to a large zip-top bag. Add powdered sugar, seal, and shake vigorously until all pieces are well coated.
06 - In a small microwave-safe bowl, melt green candy melts (or white chocolate chips with a few drops of green food coloring) in 20-second bursts, stirring until smooth.
07 - Drizzle the green candy over the puppy chow and toss gently to distribute. Spread the mixture on a lined baking sheet. Sprinkle with green and gold sprinkles and green chocolate candies. Allow to set for 10 minutes before serving.

# Tips for Success:

01 -
  • The crunch factor is absolutely addictive and you cant eat just one handful
  • It comes together in under 20 minutes with zero baking required
  • The festive green drizzle makes it look fancy but its secretly so simple
02 -
  • Work quickly once you start coating because the chocolate mixture starts to set up fast and gets harder to distribute evenly
  • Dont skip the zip top bag step because trying to coat with powdered sugar in a bowl makes a mess and never coats properly
03 -
  • Mix your powdered sugar with the cereal in batches if your bag isnt big enough
  • Let everything cool completely before storing or the moisture makes it soggy
